Meeting called to order at 6:34 p.m.
Present: Frances Archer, Merryl Brownlow, Patty Marfise-Patt, Mindy Schloss, Tina Skoubis, Lori Hinton, Lori Samataro, Angie Nelson, Mary Zenzola, Lisabeth Rohlck.
Principal’s Report: Merryl Brownlow reported for GG.
Correction to the last PTA Minutes – Jump Rope For Heart raised $9,780.00!
Movie night was a great success. $281 was raised for the Debra Gelfund fund.
ISAT testing went very well and thank you to the PTA for supplying the snacks.
The students enjoyed the cultural arts assembly which was a presentation on people with disabilities. The next Cultural Arts assembly will be on April 4th.
The Cultural Arts assemblies have all been terrific this year but the schools would like to have them more spread out next year.
Principal’s Report: Lori Hinton reported for WB.
Westbrook will be receiving two mobile units that will be comprised of four classrooms. They will be placed north of the playground. No decision yet on which classes will be held in the mobiles.
Westbrook has been chosen as the pilot school for milk chug recycling. Students can recycle their milk chugs in the cafeteria.
Movie night will be on April 11th. The students chose “Snow Buddies”.
On April 22nd which is Earth Day, Westbrook will have a tree dedication ceremony. April 23rd will be the rain date if necessary.
Treasurer’s Report: Lori Samataro reported on the budget.
Dinner Dance netted a total of $ 36,386.00.
The PTA is looking to put together a team for planning next year’s Dinner Dance now.
Lori has streamlined categories for the budget so that it is much simpler to read and identify specific items.
A budget for 2008-2009 was proposed and will be voted on at the next PTA meeting.
Vice President’s Report: Frances Archer reported.
Kindergarten Registration went well and about 74 families have signed up to join the PTA. Frances would like to have a multi-lingual pamphlet developed to explain what the PTA is and what it can do for families.
Committee Reports:
Dining for Dollars – Thank you to Via Gelato and Noodles & Co. The next event will be at Jimmy Johns on May 1st and they will be donating 10% of their sales to the PTA.
School Supplies – Orders will be due at the end of April. Many kindergarten families ordered supplies at registration.
Environmental – The Nike gym shoe drive will be held after Spring Break. Lisabeth proposed a “Lights Out” program to be held at school on Earth Day. Lisabeth is also going to create Earth Day trivia to be incorporated into the students Earth Day activities at school.
Market Days – Next pick-up date is April 9th.
New Business/Other:
Lower class sizes at GG have been approved for next year.
Brenda Kraber is a Golden Apple finalist at GG.
