Meeting called to order at 12:30 p.m.
Treasurer’s Report: Sue Donaubauer reported.
The checking balance is $99,909.28. The account balance is high because major expenses have not yet been paid out.
PTA approved $1,000.00 expenditure for GG Gator Mascot.
PTA approved an additional $2,000.00 in funds to support Cultural Arts Programs.
PTA approved an additional $300.00 in funds for the visiting author program.
Principal’s Report: Lori Hinton reported for WB and GG.
• GG Enrollment: 3rd – 180, 4th – 135, 5th – 124, NSSED – 8 Total = 447
• WB Enrollment: K – 159, 1st – 171, 2nd – 189, Pre-K/EC – 50 Total = 569
• Student Recognition System – GG held their first recognition assembly. 90% of students earned pillar ribbons.
• Global Language – off to a good start and enrollment remains strong.
• Intermediate Clubs at GG are all under way. The three clubs are Student Council, Art Club and Chorus.
• Wishing Well Program – GG has initiated a Wishing Well Program where each classroom will put together a holiday meal for a family in need. Staff, students and community members will also work to fulfill a child’s holiday wish. More details to follow in the GG newsletter.
• Giving Tree – WB will continue to collect warm winter clothing for students.
• Conferences – will take place on 10/26 for GG and in December for WB.
• Halloween – GG will have their parade at 12:40pm. WB will have their parade at 1:20pm. Parties will occur after the parade. For students not celebrating Halloween, an alternative Harvest Fest celebration will be held.
• Character Counts Week – starts October 22nd and kicks off with a canned food drive to benefit the Northfield Township Food Pantry. It is a community wide effort involving all schools in Glenview.
• Red Ribbon Week – starts October 22nd in conjunction with Character Counts.
• Playground – GG has a committee comprised of staff and parents working with John O’Connor to finalize the selection and purchase of playground equipment which will be installed in time for the 2008-2209 school year.
• Building Addition – Construction is moving at or ahead of schedule. Shuttle buses from Flick Park will be used for Pizza Bingo at GG in November. Adjustments have been made to the shuttle bus plans to prevent the glitches that occurred at Curriculum Night.
• The principals would like to thank everyone who helped out at Fall Carnival and with Bike/walk to School Day!
Committee Reports:
-Wrapping Paper: Agreed to continue this fundraiser for next year. Committee heads have agreed to chair this event again next year.
-Fall Carnival: The carnival made about $2,000.00. Feedback was very positive about the event. Next year we would like to have recycle bins at the event.
-Health & Safety: About one-third of all students walked or biked on October 3rd.
-Amazing Minds: 33 students enrolled in program.
-Environmental: 934 bags were sold between WB and GG. Looking into a Green Lunch program for November.
-Market Days: Pick up is 10/24. Orders need to be in by 10/17/07 and online orders by 10/19/07.
-Dinner Dance: No report.
Other Business:
-Dining for Dollars: Next event is Steak n’ Shake on October 16th
-Classroom Creations: The idea to have the 5th graders donate a bench to the playground was approved in exchange for a classroom creations project.
