HALLOWEEN CELEBRATIONS . . We had a great Halloween parade and parties last month!
GG: Our 4th grade students sang Halloween songs at the Abington. We also hosted a Harvest Fest in the LRC with Mrs. Berichon and Mrs. Ro for those who did not celebrate Halloween. Thank you to all the parents for cooperating with our requests regarding party attendance and parking.
WB: Our students paraded around the building and at the Administration Building. Everyone participated in a Halloween sing-a-long. The teachers reported that the parties were wonderful.

Monthly Assembly. . .
GG: We had our second Character Counts Recognition assembly with 87% of our students earning ribbons for various pillars being worked on across the classrooms.
WB: Our Citizenship Assembly this month focused on listening and following directions. First and second graders have finished reviewing each of the pillars in Life Skills. We will celebrate this at our December Citizenship Assembly. All Citizenship Assemblies are posted on-line.

Assemblies . . . We very much enjoyed the storytelling of Chris Fascione in mid-October and very much appreciate the various assemblies you provide! In addition to the Cultural Arts assembly, Glen Grove welcomed Wilderness Classroom (a web based adventure) creator, Dave Freeman, on November 6th. Glen Grove students have followed and will continue to follow him on a journey broadcast live from the Amazon using technology (pod casting, e-journaling and blogging). Dave shared his experiences traveling in various parts of the world firsthand with the Glen Grove students.

IMEA- Selected Glen Grove students participated in this wonderful event on Saturday, November 3. Mrs. Kabat shared that the students did a wonderful job of representing our music program at the regional level.

Construction Update – GG: A committee is working on the redesigning of our playground. Student council reps will take a field trip on Nov 20 to check out samples of proposed equipment for both Pleasant Ridge and Glen Grove. Students will get to actually play on examples of the kinds of elements being considered by traveling to a park in Park Ridge. Glen Grove may have equipment installed prior to the end of this school year. Keep your fingers crossed!

Professional Development –
On November 30, WB teachers will have parent-teacher conferences. GG teachers will spend time working on our School Improvement Plan. The time will be dedicated to aligning our reading program across all three grade levels and identifying core learning outcomes for maximizing instruction, particularly in the area of vocabulary development. WB teachers focused on reading fluency and mathematics at our October professional development day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Westbrook/Glen Grove families!

Treasurer’s Report: Lori Samataro reported.
The checking balance is $95,675.63.
