During
student Physical Education Time
|
Students will participate in jump rope activities during their thirty
minute class period as a way to show that they are doing something
healthy for their heart. Students may also voluntarily collect money
to donate to the American Heart Association.

The students at Glen Grove have been
learning about the important aspects of the heart recently. As part
of that process, they are using heart monitors that were donated by
the Glenview Education Foundation as part of an Educator Grant. The
students are learning how to calculate target heart rate, resting
heart rate and maximum heart rate. This incorporates math and health
into the physical education curriculum. The students start the class
period by putting on a heart rate monitor and performing a warm-up
activity. They have associated the different activities with the increase
and decrease of the heart rate. |

Coronary
heart disease is America's No. 1 killer. Stroke is No. 3 and a leading
cause of serious disability. That's why it's so important to reduce
your risk factors, know the warning signs, and know how to respond
quickly and properly if warning signs occur. |
