Easter Vocabulary

Easter Vocabulary

Easter- a day of celebration for many Christians around the world. It is preceded by Lent, 40 days of reflection, and a series of solemn days (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday) that recount the life and death of Jesus. Easter is the culminating celebration of the end of these solemn days and the resurrection of Jesus.

Resurrection- when an individual comes back from the dead.

Eggs-  In many cultures around the world, eggs are decorated in bright colors for Easter. They symbolize new life and beginnings.

Rabbits & Chicks- baby animals, especially rabbits and chicks, are used as symbols of new life

Śmigus-dyngus- On the Monday after Easter in mostly Central European countries, it is tradition to pour water on another person (in historic times, usually males throw water at females). People could get out of it by providing a “ransom” in the form of a painted egg.
