Shabbat- literally “rest,” it is the 7th day of the week. The Jewish community takes this time for prayer and remembrance of the Jewish story of creation. Many Jewish people refrain from doing rigorous activities and some even do not access electricity/technology/automobiles/money during this time.
Sunset- Shabbat begins a few minutes before sunset on Fridays and ends sunset on Saturday
Kiddush - a blessing said over wine or grape juice during Shabbat or other religious holidays. The wine/grape juice is placed in a Kiddush cup.
Challah- a type of bread typically eaten as part of religious festivities
Shabbat candles- two Shabbat candles are lit in commemoration of God’s command through the Torah to observe and remember Shabbat.
