Thanksgiving Vocabulary

Federal holiday-  a day designated by the federal government at the national level. On this day, federally operated businesses such as post offices and public schools are usually closed

Wompanoag- the people who originally lived in the lands we now call Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The Wompanoag were the people the Pilgrims interacted with when they first settled in the area. 

Settlers - people who move to a new country or area

Pilgrims- English settlers who came to North America and established Plymouth Colony. They were in search of a new place to establish as their own to flee religious persecution in Europe

Black Friday- the day after Thanksgiving, often marking the beginning of the wintertime holiday shopping season
