What is Kwanzaa?

Kwanzaa is an annual celebration of African-American culture and values. First celebrated in 1966, it was created by Maulana Karenga, who based the celebration on various African traditions. 

The seven principles celebrated during Kwanzaa are: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).
